What is Fabric?įabric is a lightweight mod loader for Minecraft. To summarise, Forge is best for ensuring that many mods work well together. MCP doesn't matter too much to users, but it is the platform that allows Minecraft Forge to modify the base game. Due to Minecraft Forge being more extensive, it also takes longer to update, especially as Minecraft Forge developers are also the people who update MCP (Mod Coders Pack), one of the tools that let modders see the game code. Forge also makes it easier to do common tasks such as creating new blocks, entities or listening to various game events. This allows large modpacks to work coherently, with duplicate items and blocks not causing any issues.

Fabric, Rift, and a few other projects provided a lightweight mod loading framework in Minecraft Forge's absence. Due to a long update cycle of Minecraft Forge, a few similar projects popped up to replace it in the meantime. You may need to restart Minecraft for the changes to take effect.The Minecraft modding ecosystem massively changed with the release of Minecraft 1.13. Open up Minecraft with Forge, and Optifine will be installed and working. Place the new file we just extracted from the installer before, into the mods folder. The actual directory is: C:\Users\YOU\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft\mods This can be found by opening the start menu and typing %AppData% and hitting enter. Now, navigate to your Minecraft folder, and then the mods folder.
In the window that pops up, choose a location to save the new file in, Desktop will do. You’ll receive another JAR file, this time for Optifine. If you’re using a newer version of Minecraft such as 1.15 or 1.16, you will need to click the ‘Preview Versions’ link found at the top of the page. It’s important that your Optifine version is the same as the Forge version (1.12.2 in my case).Ĭhoose a Download link, ideally one that’s in bold. Head to the Optifine website, and find your version of Minecraft. Now that we have Forge installed, it’s time to install Optifine.
